5. The Night of the Broken Trophies
“Isaac,” Gus said.
“What?”
“You look a little… Pardon my double entendre, my friend, but there’s something a little worrisome in your eyes.”
The Night of the Broken Trophies is the emotional, beautiful scene where Isaac, a friend from support group to both Gus and Hazel, finally realizes that he is going to have surgery that leads to him being blind for the rest of his life. Isaac is having a break down and Gus calls Hazel to come over and offer their friend some good advice.
I am just really curious to see Nat Wolff portray a psychotic episode. Up till now, I have only ever seen Wolff (“The Last Keepers”) playing laid-back, kind of cocky, funny and (let us face it) awkward characters, so I am really curious to find out how exactly Wolff is going to portray Isaac and in particularly how he will portray the character during a psychotic episode.
Although Isaac is having a breakdown, this scene is not just about the character facing the fact that he is going to be blind soon – it is also about not giving up. Isaac talks about true love and how he is not going to give up on that.
