Terrence Malick Finishes “Knight of Cups,” Rumored to Debut at Cannes

by Taylor Sinople on March 31, 2014

At least one of Terrence Malick’s new films (shot simultaneously over the course of several years) has a chance at debuting at Cannes this year. Malick has been working on an untitled film set in the Austin, Texas music scene, but “Knight of Cups” – a film about celebrity excess – has received more publicity due to leads Christian Bale and Natalie Portman. As reported by The Film Stage, actor Joe Manganiello confirmed in an interview earlier this week that he has made the final cut of “Cups,” suggesting the film has been completed and is in the distribution process.

“Knight of Cups” would follow Malick’s 2013 rumination on faith and love, “To the Wonder” and the 2011 Palme d’Or winner “The Tree of Life.”

AFF 2014: Day Five

by Zack Miller on September 15, 2014
Today was it: the big day. I may have soldiered through six screenings on day three, including an impenetrable and self-satisfied Godard, but day five boasted the most leg-numbing film of the festival: Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s 196-minute Palme d’Or winner “Winter Sleep.” I decided to ease myself in with a repeat screening of some short […]

AFF 2014: Day Three

by Zack Miller on September 14, 2014
The third day of the festival took me on a morning journey to Sweden in back-to-back wintery films “Force Majeure” and “Santa Quest.” The former, directed by Ruben Östlund, has already been chosen to represent Sweden at the 2015 Academy Awards and is one of my favorite viewings so far. It takes place at a […]
