The Chicago International Film Festival runs October 10th-24th for its 49th presentation of an eclectic array of independent, foreign, and festival favorite films. Featured are nearly 200 films that offer a broad showcase of international cinema from over 60 countries. Many of the bigger, essential festival films from around the world (Cannes Palm d’Or winner “Blue is the Warmest Color”) and from home (The Coen Brothers’ “Inside Llewyn Davis”) will be showing in Chicago off the trails of their premiers at earlier festivals – Cannes, Toronto, Venice – but the most exciting contributions to the Midwest festival are no doubt the inclusions of much smaller (and in many cases unknown) films from around the world. These are the movies that may have been produced without funding or a distribution deal in sight – created purely as artistic expression by new directors or cherished auteurs.
CIFF 2013 opens on October 10th with a special screening of James Gray’s “The Immigrant” at the historic Chicago Theatre. Room 101 Magazine will be covering the festival with daily reviews, insights, and stories from the theater. Bookmark us to stay in the loop as we give you exclusive previews to 2014’s most anticipated art-house and independent films.
